Sandra Ramos (b. Havana, 1969)

The Self-portrait is central to Ramos’s installations, drawings, prints, paintings, and videos. During the 1990s, she often portrayed herself living the everyday experiences of Cuba’s economic isolation. In the drawing from this year on view, Ramos articulates her own physical identification with the status of the island by depicting herself as a metaphysical floating object.
